India's first national park was established in 1936 and is named after Jim Corbett, a legendary naturalist and conservationist.

It's located at the foothills of the Himalayas, near the popular  hill-station of Nainital. The park is famous for its large number of  tigers, the highest among any Indian national park

It covers 1318.54 sq km, with 520 sq km as the main area and the  remaining as buffer. The park spans Pauri Garhwal, Almora and  Nainital's picturesque landscapes.

For the convenience of visitors and streamlining tourism management Corbett Tiger Reserve has been divided into six mutually exclusive tourism zones, each having separate gate for entry.

Corbett Tiger Reserve remains closed during the monsoons. All zones of Corbett Tiger Reserve are closed for night halts by visitors from 15th June to 14th November.

Private vehicles are NOT allowed entry with tourists in Corbett Tiger Reserve. Registered safari vehicles can be hired by tourists from near Ramnagar Reception Office or Amdanda Gate.
